Stanford Orientation, or Rather Orientation to Weather That is a Lot Colder Than Stanford's (1/4/13)

Hey oh y’all,

Today was cold. It snowed. But it’s not bad. I mean it’s not exactly fun since I don’t have thermal underwear and whatnot, but I did get an unexpected chance to take snow photos (I do love the snow effect on a photo)!

Snow photography is fun!
It was especially cold since we all wore kimonos. They are slightly uncomfortable to walk a lot in, especially since they belt is cinched tight, the legs are a bit drafty, and you are wearing sandals (in winter). But, it was definitely fun walking to the shrine all dressed up as a large foreigner group (made all the more fun by the interested looks from the locals).

;)
However, the more important feature of today’s dress-up and shrine visit is that it marks the official start to our Stanford study abroad program! Today we began our program orientation. We saw Doshisha University and met our teachers, staff, and Japanese university student classmates. Tomorrow we will meet our host families.
Yasaka jinja!

To be honest, I still cannot believe this is happening or that I will be studying here for 6 months. But hey, let’s take it one day at a time neh?

Looks like all of Stanford is here! Get ready for fun and cold!
