Hi everybody,
So in Tokyo, the sakura (cherry blossoms) have started to
bloom! They are so pretty!
Many people in Japan are having hanami parties (flower
viewing). You go to a park with your friends and family (or dates if you have
them…I’m stuck with David), set up a blanket, and have a fun time under the
flower trees.
Or you can do what we did – we rented a rowboat on the lake
surrounded by flowers!
Hopefully next week, when we return to Kyoto, we can join
our host family for a hanami party!
Stay tuned!

PS Today David also learned a lesson in Japanese food
etiquette. Apparently it’s considered rude in Japan to dab your pizza with a
napkin to get rid of the excess grease. According to one of our friends, it’s
like saying publicly that the food is not good – and it’s also a waste of
napkins. In America, some people have the same sentiment (why would you get rid
of the “flavor,” flavor being fat), but I don't think it’s “rude.” Interesting.
Glad it was him and not me.
