Spring Break - Pension Break (3/23/13)

Hi everybody,

We went to Nagano for skiing! I made the reservations all by myself!

We hopped on an early bus and drove for 4 and a half hours to Kuramayama. Although it seemed kind of warm, when we got there, we saw some good snow! Unfortunately, it was too late to start skiing after we arrived, so we instead went to the pension. A pension is like a bed-and-breakfast – it’s a large lodge type house with nice rooms, a comfy cottage type feel, and a fancy dinner! Our dinner was so nice! We had 7 courses all super high quality! And of course, being a Japanese inn, it had a really comfy bath! If you ever go to the Nagano area, I recommend Auberge C’est La Vie in the Kuramayama area. The service there was also great. The manager drove to the bus stop to pick us up and welcome us to Nagano! Such amazing hospitality! She also served as the waitress and front desk.

The room was super cool – with a comfy couch, fireplace, tv (we watched Hana Yori Dango – a famous drama – with related book, anime, and manga). And the view from the room, the dining room, and bath were all beautiful!

Nice view from the room!
The next day we got to go skiing!
Just like in America each slope has a 1-4 rating – 1 for beginners, 4 for expert. It was scary at first (I’ve never gone skiing before), but I soon got the hang of it!

On our way home, we made a few rest stops – but these too were also cool. They are more than just a gas station and a burger place – they have nice (clean!) restrooms, cafés, konbinis (convenience stores), and an obligatory omiyage stand (usually boxes of sweets since if you can’t think of anything to buy for your family and coworkers, you usually bring a box of sweets – or panda goods, those are good too).

Finally, I dropped David off at the capsule hotel again, and then I went to go stay at a friend’s house!
