Goodbye Taiwan (12/23/12)

 Hi everybody,

We are wrapping up our trip here in Taiwan.

Today we left Tainan, traveled back up to Taipei, explored a few more sights in Taipei, and are now preparing to leave tomorrow morning.

That's a rocking jeep!
It has been a really fast and filled past few days. There have been so many new foods and sights. I think my favorite food has been all the fried night market foods, especially “fried milk” (a sweet milky doughnut on a stick), although, I did really like the Tainan sweet tea as well.

Fried milk anyone?
Today in Tainan, there was a parade for the gods! There were firecrackers and loud music and blaring horns and big gongs (very noisy). The most interesting thing was there was a line of jeeps, but they were all brightly decorated and had large music speakers on the back.

National Palace Museum!
Then we went to the Taiwan National Palace Museum. It’s a cool collection of ancient Chinese artworks for the emperor. I really liked the jade sculptures. There is a famous carving of a lettuce. It’s so well done and it looks real. It’s really interesting to think about how someone looked at the jade piece, envisioned the lettuce, then used the existing colored patterns in the jade perfectly to create something that looks like food.

I can’t wait to return to Taiwan! I hope we can come back soon! There are so many more places to see and foods to try! And of course we need to reconnect with all of our friends here in Taiwan! Thank you and hope to see you soon!

Xiexie!
